We attended a meeting with our adoption agency this afternoon, through which we learned that we will probably be waiting for at least 2 more years. We found out about the possibility last weekend through a "Q&A" on the agency's website, and we were devastated. It's the first really big blow we've experienced since we started the process, and it's the first time I have wondered if it was really ever going to happen. We started our journey in October 2006, so to hear we will be waiting two more years, or possibly longer, was very discouraging.
Anyhow, we are doing better with it now. The meeting didn't reveal much more that what we learned through their website last weekend, but it was good to be there face-to-face and hear it from Josh and Lily (the founders). They are both wonderful people whose hearts are truly broken for all of us.
The bottom line comes down to the CCAA not being able to force the orphanages in China to send in the necessary paperwork to match children with families. It sounds like there are only a small percentage of orphanages sending their paperwork to CCAA; the rest are not in compliance, and the government entity that oversees the orphanages is not under the same governance as the CCAA (Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs - hopefully I didn't get that totally wrong!).
So, we continue to wait, and we have faith that God has this all planned out so that the perfect fit for our family comes into our home at just the right time.
